Nearly mindless Hollywood action/kung-fu/sci-fi entertainment. Interesting premise is beaten to death by unrelenting video game mentality and special effects, clichéd ending. Go for the matinee cheap seats.

This is what sci-fi movies of the future should be like. Lots of eye-candy, style and deep thinking. It appeals across many levels of movie goers. All of the acting was great, especially the four main characters. Yes, even Keanu. I have never seen anyone do an impersonation of Bruce Lee so well, even down to the tiny mannerisms. Laurence Fishburne and Carrie-Anne Moss were brilliant and oh so stylish. Big kudos to the costume designers. The Matrix is well-thought out, perfectly executed and intricately detailed. See it more than once to get the full effect. It's my current best movie ever and I hope it wins an award for special effects, or even just coolness.

Some people didn't like the acting, but I thought it was fine. The storyline seems to get in the way of the action at first, but if you take the time to watch this 3 or 4 times, the storyline ADDS a lot to the film and shows you that the awesome gun-flashing scenes had a reason to them.
Agent Smith was cool, the kung-fu action scenes were cool, the guns were cool, and the special effects were great. I don't want to disappoint anybody by giving them high expectations before they saw the movie, but this is a great movie. How can you resist the idea of being able to download ANYTHING you want to learn in an instant? 10 years of kung-fu experience downloaded into your brain in 7 seconds! The idea is as seductive as time travel, which made Back To The Future so popular. See this.
